This photographic exhibition is a tribute to our beautiful mountains and their conquistadors.
I grow up by the mediterranean sea but in my childhood, I used to visit my family based in the heart of the Alps, in Grenoble in France. Between admiration and fear, I was fascinated by these high monoliths of granite, by their shapes and their textures. It was really when I started to read the novels from French Alpine adventurers that I realised the joys and pains of climbing these impossible summits. One of the most famous of these novelists/adventurers was Roger Frison-Roche which describe the life of pioneers and first alpinists during 1930’s in his novel “Premier de Cordee” which translate by “First on the Rope”, a story of generosity and drama. Then, it was through “Conquistadors of the Useless”, novel by Lionel Terray, that the love for the mountains touched me deep in my soul. Today, it is still with fascination and a bit of fear that I like to capture with my camera the beauties of these majestic high summits. |
During this photographic exhibition, I would like to share with the public and the viewer my regard into the world of the mountaineer and communicate my passion for it.
I would like also to encourage them to read these fantastic books about humanity, courage and adventure; and finally I would like to encourage you to jump the step and make a journey to explore.

Lionel Terray’s Quotes:
“On this proud and beautiful mountain we have lived hours of fraternal, warm and exalting nobility. Here for a few days we have ceased to be slaves and have really been men. It is hard to return to servitude.” “If the conquest of a great peak brings moments of exultation and bliss, which in the monotonous, materialistic existence of modern times nothing else can approach, it also presents great dangers. It is not the goal of ‘grand alpinisme’ to face peril, but it is one of the tests one must undergo to deserve the joy of rising for an instant above the state of crawling grubs.” |
